Sanctioned by the Asian Tour, the Johor Golf Association and the Malaysia Golf Association, the Iskandar Johor Open 2009 is expected to attract between 144 and 156 players from around the region. The starting field list is expected to be announced two weeks prior to the event and will include the Asian Tour’s best: Order of Merit Winners, winners of multiple events, tournament winners, sponsors’ exemptions and the top 10 finishers from the upcoming IJO Qualifier for Malaysian Pros.

Paul Lim, who took part in the qualifier last year, is especially excited about the event. "The qualifier gave me an opportunity to compete with the best. It is a shame that I narrowly missed the cut at the Iskandar Johor Open last year. I am definitely taking part again this year and have been working very hard on my short game to tackle the small greens at the Royal Johor Country Club. My first target is to qualify and I hope to finish the day in the Top 10 this year", he explained.

"I am anticipating a very good turnout this year. Now that the prize money of the tournament has increased to US$ 1 Million, we are expecting a better playing field. What better way is there to test your golfing skills than to play with the best?" said Quek Swee Kim, Tournament Director of the upcoming qualifier.

IJO 2009 will once again be broadcast live over ESPN STAR Sports, reaching out to over 120 million homes around the world.

The main sponsor of the Iskandar Johor Open is the Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA).
