ALL SET FOR THE ISKANDAR JOHOR OPEN 09
Johor Bahru, Malaysia, 19 October 2009 –
This week will see the 3rd edition of the Iskandar Johor Open tee off at the Royal Johor Country Club (RJCC) with four local players joining the star-studded line-up. Malaysia’s Airil Rizman, Danny Chia , Ian Steel and Ben Leong will be up against two time Major winner and title holder Retief Goosen of South Africa and K.J. Choi of Korea for the US$ I million prize purse .
With a compelling list of world class golfers expected to descend on the club between 22 October 2009 and 25 October 2009, preparations for this year’s tournament are underway to cater to the throng of golf enthusiasts eagerly waiting to catch a glimpses of their favorite players in action. The RJCC is abuzz with mounting excitement as the marquees and exhibition booths are being erected.
This year spectators will be able to park at a free public car park at Taman Merdeka. 200 lots are available to cater to the large numbers of visitors expected. Visitors can access the course through a 30 meter bridge which will lead them to the 18th tee of RJCC. To cater to public safety, organizers have arranged for 24 hour surveillance and have requested for additional police support plus mobile police units onsite to ensure the safety of the public.
“There is nothing more important to us than ensuring the safety of visitors at the tournament. This year we have gone through additional lengths to provide our visitors with 24 hour security to ensure the safety of their vehicles and belongings. We want visitors to feel at ease and enjoy themselves” said Manjit Majid Abdullah, organizing secretary of the IJO.
Visitors will be able to enjoy the many offerings such as burgers and finger food at the public catering areas available at three half way houses around the course and at the main public catering booth. Toilet facilities have been increased this year and are available at the exhibition area, the 10th tee, 5th tee, 6th tee and 13th tee box.
Exhibition booths by title sponsor IRDA, platinum sponsor UEM Land, master developer of Nusajaya; all key drivers for the Iskandar Johor Open and other sponsor booths which include Iskandar Water Front Development, TaylorMade adidas Golf official IJO merchandise, Winston Wine, Puteri Pacific Hotel and Quantum Science will also offer spectators a series of products and service will engage spectators in an entertaining foray of activities including International Golf Long Drive specialist ;Jean Daniels trick shot cameo’s . In addition sponsor Ricoh will also have a booth at entrance where spectators can obtain copies of the day’s draw sheet.
A hundred seater grandstand has also been erected on the 18th green to give spectators a closer glimpse of the action. So all that’s needed is a hat, sunscreen, water and an umbrella to get your personal glimpse of this star studded line up as admission is free!

The Exhibition Village, located just by the 18th Green, offers public catering facilities. The main scoreboard shows all the competitors’ scores for that day and their overall score for the Championship.

MEDICAL BOOTH is situated in the Banquet Hall situated right next to the Swimming Pool. In the event of an injury or in an emergency on course, please contact the nearest Official.
PUBLIC CATERING
Public catering facilities are available on course and at the Exhibition Village. Club members are also welcome to dine at the Golfers Terrace

Toilets are available both on-course and within the vicinity of the clubhouse
INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY FOR SPECTATORS
WEATHER WARNING siren will be sounded prior to inclement weather moving into the area. When the WEATHER WARNING siren is sounded, seek shelter immediately. Avoid open areas, hilltops and high places, isolated trees, golf carts and wire fences.
About Iskandar Johor Open
The first edition of the Iskandar Johor Open (IJO) was held in 2007 when it was played from Aug 23 - 26 at the Royal Johor Country Club (RJCC) in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. Carrying a purse prize of US$300,000, the inaugural tournament saw a total of 156 players from 25 countries. The tournament was won by Artemio Murakami of the Philippines. Murakami came from two off the lead with a near-flawless closing 68 to take the title by one stroke from compatriot Tony Lascuna and the seasoned Scot, Simon Yates for his maiden win on the Asian Tour.
South African Retief Goosen went on to clinch the coveted trophy in the US$ 500,000 Iskandar Johor Open 2008. 144 golf professionals from the Asian Tour battled it out at the Royal Johor Country Club from 30 October – 2 November 2008. The 2nd edition of Iskandar Johor Open was fully sanctioned by the Asian Tour, Malaysian Golf Association and Johor Golf Association and boasted some of the world’s top players – Retief Goosen, Niclas Fasth, Thongchai Jaidee amongst others.
2009 will mark a milestone in the history of Iskandar Johor Open, with a 100% increase in prize money to US$ 1,000,000. The main sponsor of the Iskandar Johor Open is the Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA). It is also supported by platinum sponsor - UEM Land Berhad, the master developer of Nusajaya which is a key driver of Iskandar Malaysia.
